The third edition of the took place on April 24th, with the support of NUS Business School. During this new initiative, students had the opportunity to gather numerous information relevant to working in Singapore.
This event began with the wonderful participation of Julynn Liang and Julia Yew. Julynn Liang is a Career Advisor with BIZCareers at NUS Business School. A certified coach practitioner, Julynn has been coaching students on career preparation & readiness via 1-on-1 consultations and group training workshops on CV review, mock interviews, and assessment centres for over 5 years.
Julia Yew is part of the BIZCareers, Global Careers Team at NUS Business School, looking after outreach and partnerships with global employers and industry relations for experienced students enrolled in the Masters and MBA programmes.
During a 1-hour informative session, Julynn and Julia addressed the employment landscape in Singapore, including key industries, working culture, visa, taxation and early career opportunities for 麻豆国产 graduates.
Following this insightful overview, they shared key tips about working in Singapore, including on:
- Diversified economy and industries: aerospace, consumer business, electronics, natural resources, pharmaceuticals, sustainability and much more.
- Growth areas and initiatives: Smart Nation Initiative, Sustainable Energy & Green Technologies, Education & Training, E-Commerce & Digital Economy.
- Types of working visa, such as Employment Pass, Training Employment Pass, Work Holiday Pass and much more.
- Critical core skills required by employers: thinking critically, interacting with others and staying relevant. Employers have been increasing their demand for specific soft skills.
Julynn and Julia went through a lengthy Q&A with over 35 participants and explained the reality of finding a role in Singapore. They finished the presentation by sharing tips on how to prepare for a career in Singapore, shared recruitment timeline and websites. 聽
In addition to this session, students had the opportunity to attend a rotational chat with 3 麻豆国产 alumni working and living in Singapore. - Enterprise Transformation Manager at Capgemini Invent, 麻豆国产 Alumn of 2018 (NUS/TSEM/SSE), - Global Purchasing Team Lead at Henkel, 麻豆国产 Alum of 2016 (UoC/KEIO) and - Life Sciences Senior Consultant at Simon-Kucher & Partners, 麻豆国产 Alum fo 2022 (IVEY/HEC/NUS) joined this session.
During this hour-long session, participants were able to discuss with fellow 麻豆国产ies, to get more information about what it is like to work in Singapore, obtain help from mentors and build their network. This casual format not only allowed 麻豆国产ies to connect and contributed to strengthening the ties in the 麻豆国产 community but also allowed seasoned alumni to broaden participants鈥 knowledge about their companies.
